Communications and Social Media Manager (remote position)

Are you a social media and communications professional who is passionate about the environment, human health, animals, and how the food system impacts them all? Educated Choices Program Overview:

The Educated Choices Program (ECP) is a 501(c)(3) academic program that educates teens and adults, both through in-classroom and digital presentations, about the impact of their food choices on their health, the environment, and animals. We are seeking a Communications and Social Media Manager who shares the same passion for our mission, vision, and values to join our fully remote team!
 

Reporting and availability requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will be available to work the following hours:

    • Monday through Thursday: 8 am - 5 pm

    • Friday: 8 am - 5 pm, as needed to achieve responsibilities

  • Provide timely responses via email/text during assigned working hours to respond to management communications. 

  • Communicate and collaborate directly with Program Directors and other assigned members of management as required.

    • Regular discussions and updates with Program Directors and other staff members as needed.

  • Attend scheduled and urgent meetings as directed.

    • Participate in a weekly virtual meeting with other members of management as needed.

    • Meet with the CEO/CDO weekly to discuss progress/updates.

  • Create content to produce a greater awareness about ECP, and to support teachers, students, and community members while ensuring brand consistency.

    • Create, maintain, and grow new and existing social networks, including Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, FourSquare, Instagram, Google+, Facebook, and others.

    • Monitor social media progress using web analytic tools, optimize strategies, analyze data, and research the best ways to increase traffic.

    • Create a social media calendar so that all directors have transparency of upcoming campaigns and ensure timely sign-off of projects prior to posting.

    • Work with CDO to create engaging online fundraising events, and promote them as instructed.

    • Host Q&A sessions and additional related discussions, when applicable.

    • Establish and maintain a blog on the ECP website, including links to resources shared on social media.

    • Work to boost SEO.

    • Manage existing advertisements and pursue new advertising opportunities, including Google Ads and social media.

    • Produce content for newsletters and social media, pertaining to relevant viral news stories and ECP content.

    • Develop a quarterly/monthly newsletter for students.

  • Foster and maintain relationships related to press and social media.

    • Network and develop relationships with similarly-focused groups and organizations on social media.

    • Curate and manage relationships with social media "influencers" relevant to our targeted fields and movements.

    • Monitor and react or respond accordingly to messages, shares, tagged posts and other engagements across all social channels.

  • Evaluate and assist with field communication and materials.

    • Work with Program Directors to increase the success of outreach campaigns, including more “educator friendly” emails.

    • Create an outreach strategy to highlight environmental/health holidays and communication based on educators' subject areas.

    • Collaborate with Program Directors to update/create responses to Teacher FAQs as needed/requested, such as how different subjects may benefit from ECP presentations.

  • Provide support related to content writing for presentations and associated material, including suggesting edits to presentation scripts, as needed and requested.

  • Collaborate with Program Directors and other assigned staff, such as the Human Resources Specialist, to develop new methods of team-wide communication.

    • Moderate the existing team Facebook group for any posts, comments, or pictures that go against the standard use of the group.

    • Research and suggest alternative platforms/methods for team-wide communication and team building.

  • Assist leadership with program planning, evolution and growth.

  • Work with and communicate with other departments as needed and required for program development.

  • Assist in tracking relevant emerging studies in the areas of plant-based diets, new food technologies, farmed animal welfare, health and wellness statistics, environmental research connected to eating trends, and also keep abreast of high profile public figures and celebrities endorsing such lifestyles and ideologies.

  • Responsibly promote ECP as the consummate food systems education program and represent ECP as a supportive, collaborative, fair-minded organization with high standards of excellence and in alignment with our mission.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must provide proof of COVID vaccination

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, PR, or related field

  • Two years of social media management experience

  • Experience with Hootsuite, Sprout Social, HubSpot or other scheduling software

  • Knowledge of Canva or similar platform, Wix or similar platform, and Google Analytics

  • Proficient in computer skills, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite 

  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices

  • Knowledge of Google Ads (AdWords)

  • Experience with technologies and best practices for web design, web production, and creative design across multiple platforms

  • Experience identifying and creating campaigns for the target audiences

  • Excellent analytical and time-management skills

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to supervise multiple projects

 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Annual salary starting at $45k, depending on experience

Database Intern (remote)

Educated Choices Program Overview:

The Educated Choices Program (ECP) is a  501(c)3 academic program that educates teens and adults, both through in-classroom and digital presentations, about the impact of their food choices on their health, the environment, and animals. ECP’s digital programs are currently expanding, offering professionally narrated videos and additional learning materials to educators in college and middle/high school classrooms.

Purpose of the Program:

Assist in the creation of contact databases for outreach by our College and Digital Programs, nationally and internationally.

Community Needs that the Program Serves:

With the new digital platform, educational materials are able to be seen by students across the United States, Canada, and even globally! The contact databases built as part of this internship program will create opportunities for ECP’s educational content to reach new areas, including a focus on underserved or remote locations.

Position Tasks:

  1. Identify new opportunities for outreach throughout the United States, Canada, and international regions.

  2. Create contact databases through live Google Sheets files.

  3. Collaborate with and report directly to the assigned program’s Assistant Director.

  4. Participate in professional development sessions led by different departments of the organization.

Position Goals:

  • Goal 1: Advance knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and contact maintenance through hands-on work

  • Goal 2: Opportunity to learn time management and team building skills in remote workplaces

  • Goal 3: Personal and professional development, particularly through monthly development sessions in a variety of nonprofit-related departments

  • Goal 4: Further development of the organization

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Interest in nonprofit, education, environment, animals or health-related issues

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program in the United States

  • Desired weekly availability of 10 hours per week

  • 4-month commitment, with the possibility of extension

  • Operational computer with reliable internet

  • Basic understanding of spreadsheets

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • 18 years of age or older
     

Benefits:

  • All internship positions are paid $15 per hour

  • Position is completed remotely, with flexible work hours outside of scheduled meetings/development

  • Potential for future contract work with the organization

  • Recommendations and reference letters can be provided

  • Satisfies the standard internship hour requirements for most institutions 

Professional Development Opportunities:

  • Regular meetings with Assistant Directors from multiple educational outreach programs

  • Lunch and Learn with organization’s Chief Executive Officer

  • Monthly seminars led by staff members from a variety of fields. Possible topics include:

    • Nonprofit fundraising with organization’s Development Director

    • Nonprofit boards and advisory operations with an Advisory Board member

    • Resume writing, interview prep, and other communication skills
