LESSON PLAN 7
We just learned about the connections between our food choices, our health, and the environment. Many of the food choices that we make are based on our cultural and personal perspectives of acceptable foods. Let's continue to explore why we choose the foods we do, and how they impact our world.
1. Pick 3 cuisines from the BBC Good Food international collection. Look through each of the 3 cuisines to get a sense of what meals are commonly made.
Write a short reaction for each cuisine:
What were your initial thoughts to these dishes?
Do you think these dishes would be well received in our country? Why or why not?
4. Which foods from the BBC articles fit into your idea of "standard" or "acceptable" foods and why? Do you think these foods would be considered standard around the world?
Based on what you learned during the presentation, make some predictions of how you think these types of foods impact the environment or the health of the people who consume them.
5. There are foods that are becoming widely available that are beneficial to our health and the environment, but are not always seen as "standard." Explore some of these alternative products and then follow this prompt:
Write 1-2 paragraphs summarizing what defines the foods we view as normal and if these foods can still be enjoyed in a healthier and/or more sustainable way.
