ATLANTA, January 28, 2026 – The Educated Choices Program (ECP) is proud to announce the release of its newest education package, Pioneering Protein: Exploring Career Paths in Food Innovation. Developed in exclusive partnership with the Good Food Institute (GFI), this 24-minute video and accompanying curriculum give students an inside look at the fast-growing field of alternative proteins and the diverse careers driving innovation across global food systems.

“Alternative proteins and the careers that come from them allow us to make a positive impact on people’s lives. From feeding a growing population to using fewer resources than traditional farming, this work has the potential to create meaningful change.” - Stephan Alfaro, Research Associate at Upside Foods.

As part of ECP’s Food Innovation Series with GFI, Pioneering Protein features interviews with six young professionals working across food science, research and development, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. Through real-world stories and practical insights, students learn how food innovation intersects with science, health, climate, and social impact, and how they can begin preparing for these careers today.

“Students are eager to understand how their interests connect to real-world impact. "Pioneering Protein" helps learners see that the future of food is being built right now and that there is a place for them in shaping it. By spotlighting real professionals and pathways, we’re expanding how students imagine their role in building a more sustainable food system.” - Lorena Mucke, Founder and CEO of the Educated Choices Program.

“The goal is to reduce involvement of animals in the food supply chain while creating products that taste the same or better and cost the same or less.” - Armaan Dhanda, Co-Founder of Pawsible Foods.

The Pioneering Protein education package includes free classroom-ready resources such as lesson plans, guided notes, discussion prompts, and activities that support flexible use across classrooms, career exploration programs, and informal learning environments. ECP materials support international academic standards, including Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and support a range of global academic frameworks.

By focusing on career pathways alongside scientific concepts, Pioneering Protein complements ECP’s broader mission to provide accessible, evidence-based food education that empowers learners to make informed choices and explore meaningful opportunities for impact.

“Food is what connects everybody in the world. Through working in alternative proteins, we’re able to help create a food system that is fair, sustainable, and accessible for future generations.” - Stephan Alfaro, Research Associate at Upside Foods.
